How to own your story – with Rona Glynn-McDonald

EPISODE 4

Ren and Rona explore the power of listening, knowing where you come from and owning the story you choose to tell, and how she expresses her identity through music and production. If you’ve ever questioned the stories you’ve inherited and wanted to write your own, this conversation is for you.

Who gets to decide the stories you live by? Rona Glynn-McDonald is a Kaytetye woman, producer, musician and founder of Common Ground, whose work spans music, storytelling, culture and systems change.

“ The stories we tell ourselves matter more than any of the stories that are told beyond ourselves.”

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

Take a moment to reflect. Each episode leaves you with questions worth more than a quick answer. There are no right answers — just an invitation to listen to what comes up.

Where in my life am I trying to impress others, rather than expressing who I really am?

If I got still and really listened, what might I hear that I've been too busy to notice?

What helps me feel connected to something bigger than myself — and how can I make more room for that?

TRY THIS

Turn the conversation into action. Insight fades fast unless you do something with it. The exercise below is a small, practical experiment inspired by this episode’s guest — designed to move an idea from your headphones into your week. Start before you feel ready.

Who Wrote Your Story?

In this episode, Rona invites us to think about the stories that shape who we are — the ones we inherit, the ones others tell about us, and the ones we choose for ourselves. This worksheet is an invitation to explore the stories you've carried through life, question which ones still feel true, and discover how you might begin writing your own.
